FOR Congo (MIR Congo) is a Congolese Branch of IFOR which was founded in June 2004 and whose headquarters are located at Pointe-Noire, in Republic of Congo. Congo is a country suffering from poverty, attacks to physical and moral integrity by several ways of violence, amplified by the fratricidal wars that have arisen the country in recent decades. Thus, the main role of the fellowship is to establish peace within the numerous communities.

That is why, FOR Congo involved itself in peace and nonviolence, as well as justice, respect of human rights, development, children schooling and reconciliation. Indeed, the goal is to rebuild the country, to introduce a democracy and to help transforming the society. To reach this aim, FOR Congo gets involved in active nonviolence as a way of life in order to deal with social, economic and political problems.

FOR Congo has been playing an important role in building peace between many of the communities in the country. First, the movement focuses on training teachers to teach young people and adults the way to reconcile through active nonviolence. It also implements educational sessions about nonviolence origins and builds on its strong commitment to the nonviolent and reconciliation teachings.

MIR Congo's national council held its second ordinary session on September 2007 at the Foyer of Charity of Liambou. 19 delegates from Brazzaville, Nkayi, Sibiti, Dolisie and Pointe-Noire joined their strength to meet and share about the theme "Together, we will build a world of peace by nonviolent actions". Indeed, the analysis of political, socio-economic, cultural and religious realities in Congo has highlighted complex situations of inequality in which are living more and more Congolese people. The meeting alluded the importance of men, women and young people concerned by discriminations and injustices to bring themselves to consciousness to take their destiny in hand. Thus, FOR Congo has renewed its commitment to contribute to the preparation of its citizen's able awareness to resist defeatism, hatred and violence in all its forms, to refuse war and to act concretely for reconciliation and nonviolent transformations.

On June 2007, FOR Congo with the help from other European and African associations launched a campaign called "Traitement des minerais et respect des droits humains au Katanga" which aimed at denouncing hazards induced by working exploitations. Nowadays, serious problems with people health and human rights still happen in Republic of Congo. The campaign referred to the case of SOMIKA factory located on the South of the Republic of Congo, in Lubumbashi. This plant discharges acid under a groundwater which provides water to almost 1 million people. This situation menaces the health of people living in this surrounding. That is why, the movement contacted several international authorities in order to warm people, publicly denounce this condition and to immediately act against it.

- To increase public opinion on the situation of violence and on the peace initiatives.

- To implement the United Nations Decade for the culture of nonviolence and peace.

- To promote the truth, fairness and reconciliation.

- To strength democracy and rule of law.

- To support mobilization of women against violence and to promote their rights and those of children.

- To work on solidarity and international covenant in favor of peace and justice.

- To secure the spiritual healing of its commitment.

- To ensure regular funding of FOR Congo activities.

Besides, the fellowship projected the current development of the movement by restructuring teams of local groups. For instance, 9 Work Groups were created to support the work towards the achievement of justice and peace through nonviolence.
