9 March 2009: International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security, Monrovia, Liberia

On 7 and 8 March 2009, women and men from all over the world gathered in the Samuel K. Doe Stadium in Monrovia to landmark a historic moment: Women peacemakers rising to their feet, in order to effect lasting change in the world.

22 January 2009: International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security

WPP has been part of a working group coordinated by the International Women's Tribune Centre (New York) which is coordinating NGO input for the upcoming 1325 Expert Group Meeting in the lead up to the International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security. (Read the NGO Statement in Spanish). The Colloquium, to be held in Liberia, Monrovia from 7-8 March, 2009, will empower women to be more effective leaders by linking with their peers from around the world and sharing and implementing best practices on economic empowerment, influencing climate change and sustainable development.  The Colloquium will promote progress on women’s leadership on peace and security, and women’s leadership and empowerment in general. 02 February 2009: WPP Pilot Project: gender perspective in civilian-based peace work

In recent years IFOR’s Women Peacemakers Program has been receiving signals from the field that civilian-based peace services are struggling to implement a gender perspective in their work. Based on this observation the WPP decided to conduct a one-year pilot research on how to incorporate a gender perspective in civilian-based peace work. Read more

WPP is proud and very happy to announce that the Africa Regional Desk has received funding from the MDG3 Fund in order to continue the highly important work they are doing for the upcoming three years! 09 February 2009: Celebration March 8: Launch of 'We-Can-campaign'

We Can-campaign in the NetherlandsOn March 8, Movisie will launch the 'We Can-campgain' in the Netherlands. WPP will participate in this event, by organizing a workshop on gender and violence. The campaign is part of an international one focusing on ending violence against women. The core of the campaign are changemakers and coalition partners; individuals and organisations that take action to stop violence against women.
