International Orientation

There is an annual orientation of approximately one month at the IFOR international secretariat for two young women active in civil society organizations (CSOs). The orientation includes practical office work, an introduction to international peace work and exposure visits to relevant organizations.

One of the tasks of the interns is the compilation of a Youth Newsletter, including information about activities in the IFOR branches, groups and affiliates like youth peace camps, internships, trainings and other opportunities for youth. The Newsletter is distributed among IFOR branches and other contacts.

"The International Orientation has enabled me to deepen my knowledge on active non-violence as a cornerstone in building a culture of peace. In addition, I have gained knowledge on gender mainstreaming in peace activities. At the IFOR Secretariat, I have observed how international peace work is carried out, and have appreciated the diligence and enthusiasm
that all the IFOR / WPP staff put into their work. The fact that Sitha and I participated in making decisions for the activities that we would participate in, meant that we were valued, and this motivated us to do our best."
- Irene Kyazze (2008 WPP intern)
