International Orientation

WPP’s International Orientation is a six-weeks annual orientation at the IFOR International Secretariat and its Women Peacemakers Program for two young women active in civil society organizations (CSOs).

The main objective of the International Orientation is to provide young activists with an opportunity to further their thinking and familiarity with critical international issues in conflict resolution, development, human rights and gender awareness.

The orientation includes an introduction to IFOR’s international peace work, exposure and network visits to relevant organizations in the Netherlands, and practical office work. The Interns will also be producing an edition of the IFOR newsletter “The Time is Now!”. Read the 2008 WPP interns produced newsletter “The Time Is Now”.

The 2009 International Orientation will take place during spring time in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.  Please note that the call for applicants for this orientation has been closed. It will be announced on this website w hen WPP opens the 2010 call for applications.

"The International Orientation has enabled me to deepen my knowledge on active non-violence as a cornerstone in building a culture of peace. In addition, I have gained knowledge on gender mainstreaming in peace activities. At the IFOR Secretariat, I have observed how international peace work is carried out, and have appreciated the diligence and enthusiasm
that all the IFOR / WPP staff put into their work. The fact that Sitha and I participated in making decisions for the activities that we would participate in, meant that we were valued, and this motivated us to do our best."
- Irene Kyazze (2008 WPP intern)

Further exchanges

Four women will be supported during annual South-South and North-South exchanges. These exchanges may be between IFOR and non-IFOR groups. The objective of the S-S and N-S exchanges is to facilitate skills sharing between peace activists from different regions, concentrating on women and youth, by supporting international participation in trainings, courses and seminars.
