ABOUT US

Who we are
Our mission

Fellowship of Reconciliation Zimbabwe (FORZ) is a movement working for Nonviolence Education in Zimbabwe, a country which has experienced national violence and struggles throughout its history.

Thus, FOR Zimbabwe aims to help people to find a way out of the cycle of violence by officially adopting nonviolent activities peacefully. Moreover, its main concerns are with youths and women nonviolence training, thanks to the development of different programs that lend assistance to FOR Zimbabwe.

In 2005, veteran Peacemaker Akadim Chikandamina, along with Nonviolence trainers Makio Phiri and Nhamo Sithole, held workshops in different Zimbabwean Communities, such as Epworth, Glen Norah and Gweru, and established Youth Peace Clubs as part of an Nonviolence Education Training Program. This program supported and set-up three Youth Peace Clubs in three districts. It also supported local community leaders to expand the number of trainings and the development of content for nonviolence in the entire country. Finally, Youth Peace Clubs have now 3.800 members with monthly meetings and 120 Youth participants in workshops.

With the Focal Point Program, FOR Zimbabwe has selected some 25 young men and women for training young people towards nonviolence. Besides, FOR Zimbabwe provides materials, pays for school and also helps with the transportation of students, with the principle and practise of Active Nonviolence. The goal is to give students coming from poor families the economic independance to fight against poverty and exclusion in order to develop nonviolent skills to transfort their communities. In 2007 - 2008, Focal Point created and delivered an active curriculum in Zimbabwe, establishing partnerships with church groups, some NGOs and Trade Unions and with other existing organizations, such as the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, the Zimbabwe Christian Alliance... etc.

Moreover, FOR Zimbabwe member Netsai Mushonga has developped a program on gender-based violence as part of the Women Peacemaker Program, developped by the International Fellowship of Reconciliation.

With the help of the Fellowship of Reconciliation England, IFOR Zimbabwe plans to establish an intensive, systematic and coordinated national Nonviolence Training Program with definied objective to reach a national impact. Indeed, more Youth Peace Clubs are needed in additional areas in Zimbabwe. The organizations would also like to take preventive action at community gathering points - schools, churches, colleges - by delivering training manuals and Nonviolent training promotional flyers. FORZ looks for adult to implement Youth Club activities and to extend training to 2 or 3 days.
