Decade

Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the world

Since the initiation in 2001 of the United Nations Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence, IFOR members have been active in its work for peace education and concern for children.

In the first stage IFOR will emphasize information and awareness-raising, especially through the promotion of the UNESCO Manifesto 2000, launched by UNESCO and the Appeal of the Nobel Laureates. IFOR works in close co-operation with both organizations and has selected the following focus areas. These areas overlap and are not to be seen as separate but as part of an integrated campaign whose focus and efforts cover a wide range of areas and activities:

Education for Children and Youth
Economic Justice
Education and Training for Adults
Development of Nonviolence Media
Inter-religious Dialogue
Responding to Gender and Family Violence
Peace Teams
Zones of Peace
Structures for Peace Building
Disarmament

A mid term report from The International Fellowship of Reconciliation

Since the very beginning IFOR primarily through Pierre Marchand, the leading force behind this idea, was very involved in this Decade. Some IFOR branches decided to undertake projects so that the Decade would not only be a general inspiration but a concrete project. In this report you will find actions undertaken by some IFOR branches and member organizations.
