On January 22nd, 2023, let’s join worldwide celebrations and actions for the entry into force of the United Nations Nuclear Ban Treaty, which states that nuclear weapons are not only immoral, but also illegal according to international law. 

We call on all UN Member States to free the world from nuclear weapons by supporting the #nuclearban treaty by ratifying it (if they have not done so already).

We seek to underscore Article 6 of the Treaty, which concerns victim assistance and environmental remediation. In this regard, we call for #JustReparation

As stated in Article 7 of the Treaty, international cooperation and assistance is vital to achieve the total elimination of nuclear weapons and the full implementation of the Treaty.

Let’s wake up the World! Nuclear weapons are immoral and illegal!

• Ivrea local group of MIR Italy joins other 30 organizations inviting people to demonstrate against atomic weapons, on Saturday 21 January at 11.30 a.m., in support of the 'Italia Ripensaci' campaign, calling for the Italian government to ratify the UN TPNW Treaty, on the second anniversary of its entry into force.

CÉLÉBRER LE 2e ANNIVERSAIRE DU TRAITÉ DE PROHIBITION DES ARMES NUCLÉAIRES DE L'ONU !

Le 22 janvier 2023, participons aux célébrations et actions mondiales pour l'entrée en vigueur du Traité de prohibition nucléaire des Nations Unies qui stipule que les armes nucléaires sont non seulement immorales, mais aussi illégales selon le droit international. 
Nous appelons tous les États membres à soutenir le traité #nuclearban et à le ratifier (si ce n'est pas encore fait) afin de libérer le monde des armes nucléaires.
Nous soulignons également l'art. 6 du Traité qui concerne l'assistance aux victimes et la remédiation environnementale, et nous appelons donc à la #RéparationJuste.
Comme indiqué dans l'art. 7 du Traité, la coopération et l'assistance internationales sont essentielles pour parvenir à l'élimination totale des armes nucléaires et à la pleine application du Traité.

El 22 de enero de 2023 unámonos a las celebraciones y acciones mundiales por la entrada en vigor del Tratado de Prohibición Nuclear de las Naciones Unidas que establece que las armas nucleares, no sólo son inmorales, sino también ilegales según el derecho internacional. 
Hacemos un llamamiento a todos los Estados miembros para que apoyen el #ProhibiciónNuclear y lo ratifiquen (si aún no lo han hecho) y liberen al mundo de las armas nucleares.
También destacamos especialmente el art. 6 del Tratado que trata sobre la asistencia a las víctimas y la reparación del medio ambiente, por lo que hacemos un llamamiento a la #ReparaciónJusta.
Como se indica en el art. 7 del Tratado, la cooperación y asistencia internacional es vital para lograr la eliminación total de las armas nucleares y la plena aplicación del Tratado.

A. Here a briefing paper prepared by ICAN with talking points and messages on the treaty's impact and achievements one year after the entry into force.

Key results of the TPNW's entry into force:

• Support for the TPNW is growing: More states parties are coming onboard, as well as more cities, parliamentarians and other actors. Every state that joins this treaty makes a difference to establish the illegality and unacceptability of these weapons.

• Divestment from nuclear producing companies is accelerating and having an impact: Financial institutions in both states and non states parties are starting to sell off assets in nuclear weapons producing companies due to the TPNW's entry into force, and nuclear weapons producing companies are starting to feel the impact of that. Serco (UK) became one of the first companies to declare it would no longer bid on nuclear weapons' contracts because sufficient financing is no longer available. The success of this treaty has made investment in nuclear weapons too risky.

• Cracking the resistance of the nuclear weapons-complicit states: The new governments of Norway and Germany have respectively become the first NATO state and the first nuclear weapons-hosting state to commit to observing the TPNW’s first meeting of state parties.

• Developing concrete steps to ensure survivor’s rights: Since the TPNW entered into force last year, states and civil society have started to prepare for the first meeting of states parties, including implementing Articles 6 and 7 on assistance for survivors of nuclear weapons use and testing and remediation of nuclear contaminated environments.

B. “In preparation for global celebrations to mark the first-year anniversary of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons’ (TPNW) entry into force, The Illuminator Collective supported New York City artists and activists to illuminate the South wall of the iconic United Nations Secretariat building designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier.

The illuminations projected on to the UN, designed by artist Ivy Arce, called out each of the nine nuclear armed nations — in the order in which each country developed its nuclear capability — to join the TPNW. The messages read, “Nuclear Weapons Are Illegal, United States Join the Treaty! #nuclearban” followed by Russia, the UK, France, China, Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea; and were conveyed in the corresponding country-specific, lingua franca to send a direct message to their leaders — join the Treaty to save the world from nuclear annihilation.”

On January 22nd of 2021 we join worldwide celebrations for the entering into force of the UN nuclear ban Treaty which states that nuclear weapons, not only are immoral, but also unlawful according to international law.

We invited everyone to ring a bell for peace at noon. Different members of the IFOR community, around the world, rang their bells and shared their celebrations with us. We wanted to highlight here these contributions.

Take action on Climate Change and support Peace!

The International Fellowship of Reconciliation, a spiritual based peace movement founded over a century ago to overcome war and the Culture of Violence and to implement a Culture of Peace, Justice and Truth through nonviolence, is pleased to invite all of you to join efforts to act for Climate. Living in justice includes protecting the Earth, which is the basis of life for all living beings.

IFOR Global Day of Action is to focus on the field of militarism and the comprehensive war system and is made out of different initiatives which can be undertaken by individuals and groups and that are connected to #compassion #accountability and #change and rooted in nonviolence. War, production of armaments, militarization of the territory, military investment, security are some of the topics which can be addressed through in person, virtual, informal, institutional initiatives.

MILITARISM DRIVES CLIMATE CATASTROPHE!

Climate change is connected to Peace issues, in particular this is evident in the field of armed conflict.

War has a direct impact on the ground, also causing destruction on the land, contamination, pollution and reducing or destroying crops, livestock farming and healthy water sources.

IFOR is now urging to put the spotlight on a significant aspect that has a global impact, and that is: "The environmentally and climate destructive effects of all activities in the military sector" and on the following demands:
1. Disclose the destructive impacts by the military based on hard facts,
2. Data collection and full transparency on the military's carbon footprint,
3. Mandatory reporting of all military GHG emissions in line with the UN Framework Convention (Paris Agreement, 2015) in the respective national climate reports
4. Inclusion of military GHG emissions in further climate negotiations,
5. End war.

The production of weapons often requires the retrieval of often exploited resources and often involves waste products and pollution. The use of weapons itself has negative consequences for the environment. One of the most striking examples is nuclear weapons, the production, testing, storage and use of which pose a constant danger to humankind and the entire planet, to the point of devastating and irreparable consequences.

The militarisation of the territory and the actions of armed groups also cause devastation in the environment in which people live, leading to unbearable and harmful living conditions.
In addition, many violent conflicts are generated to gain control over resources, often in resource-rich countries, usually in the global south.

Investment in armaments and the military is immoral both because it is an investment in the destruction of living beings and territory and because it displaces resources needed to protect and safeguard the environment and life on the planet. There are many urgent investments to prevent catastrophes and to repair the damage already caused, and as long as security is thought to be provided by the military, catastrophe will continue.

The security of individuals and of the planet that hosts us is determined by “care for our common home”, by respect for the environment and for resources, and by using them sparingly and not selfishly or in the interests of the few.

Nonviolence highlights the need for and usefulness of alternative choices to those of a Culture of Violence, choices that engage all social actors, choices aimed at preserving all forms of life and repairing forms of injustice and inequity among the inhabitants of the Earth.

La journée d'action mondiale d'IFOR se concentre sur le militarisme et le système de guerre global. Elle est composée de différentes initiatives qui peuvent être entreprises par des individus et des groupes et qui sont liées à la #compassion, à la #responsabilité et au #changement et qui sont fondées sur la non-violence.

La guerre, la production d'armements, la militarisation du territoire, les investissements militaires, la sécurité... sont quelques-uns des thèmes qui peuvent être abordés par le biais d'initiatives personnelles, virtuelles, informelles, institutionnelles....

LE MILITARISME EST LE MOTEUR DE LA CATASTROPHE CLIMATIQUE !

Le changement climatique est lié aux questions de paix, en particulier dans le domaine des conflits armés.
La guerre a un impact direct sur le terrain, provoquant également la destruction de la terre, la contamination, la pollution et la réduction ou la destruction des cultures, de l'élevage et des sources d'eau saines.

L'IFOR demande maintenant instamment de mettre en lumière un aspect important qui a un impact mondial, à savoir : " Les effets destructeurs sur l'environnement et le climat de toutes les activités du secteur militaire " et sur les demandes suivantes :
1. Divulguer les effets destructeurs de l'armée sur la base de faits concrets,
2. Collecte de données et transparence totale sur l'empreinte carbone de l'armée,
3. Déclaration obligatoire de toutes les émissions de GES des militaires conformément à la Convention-cadre des Nations Unies (Accord de Paris 2015) dans les rapports nationaux respectifs sur le climat.
4. Inclusion des émissions de GES militaires dans les négociations futures sur le climat,
5. Abolir la guerre.

La production d'armes nécessite souvent de récupérer des ressources souvent exploitées et implique souvent des déchets et de la pollution. L'utilisation des armes elle-même a des conséquences négatives sur l'environnement. L'un des exemples les plus frappants est celui des armes nucléaires, dont la production, les essais, le stockage et l'utilisation représentent un danger constant pour l'humanité et la planète entière, au point d'avoir des conséquences dévastatrices et irréparables.

La militarisation du territoire et les actions des groupes armés provoquent également la dévastation de l'environnement dans lequel vivent les gens, entraînant des conditions de vie insupportables et nuisibles.
En outre, de nombreux conflits violents sont générés pour obtenir le contrôle des ressources, souvent dans des pays riches en ressources, généralement dans le sud du monde.

L'investissement dans les armements et l'armée est immoral, à la fois parce qu'il s'agit d'un investissement dans la destruction d'êtres vivants et de territoires et parce qu'il déplace des ressources nécessaires à la protection et à la sauvegarde de l'environnement et de la vie sur la planète. Il existe de nombreux investissements urgents pour prévenir les catastrophes et réparer les dommages déjà causés, et tant que l'on pensera que la sécurité est assurée par l'armée, les catastrophes continueront.

La sécurité des individus et de la planète qui nous accueille est déterminée par le "soin de notre maison commune", par le respect de l'environnement et des ressources, et par leur utilisation parcimonieuse et non égoïste ou dans l'intérêt de quelques-uns.

La non-violence met en évidence la nécessité et l'utilité de choix alternatifs à ceux de la culture de la violence, des choix qui engagent tous les acteurs sociaux, des choix visant à préserver toutes les formes de vie et à réparer les formes d'injustice et d'inégalité entre les habitants de la Terre.

¡Actúa sobre el Cambio Climático y apoya la Paz!

El Movimiento Internacional de Reconciliación, un movimiento de paz de base espiritual fundado hace más de un siglo para superar la guerra y la Cultura de la Violencia e implantar una Cultura de la Paz, la Justicia y la Verdad a través de la noviolencia, se complace en invitarles a unirse a los esfuerzos para la acción por el Clima.
Vivir en justicia incluye proteger la Tierra, que es la base de la vida para todos los seres vivos.

El Día de Acción Global de IFOR se centrará en el campo del militarismo y el sistema de guerra integral y se compone de diferentes iniciativas que pueden ser emprendidas por individuos y grupos y que están conectadas con la #compasión #responsabilidad y el #cambio y basadas en la noviolencia .

La guerra, la producción de armamento, la militarización del territorio, la inversión militar, la seguridad... son algunos de los temas que se pueden abordar a través de iniciativas presenciales, virtuales, informales, institucionales...

EL MILITARISMO CONDUCE A LA CATÁSTROFE CLIMÁTICA

El cambio climático está relacionado con los problemas de la paz, en particular esto es evidente en el ámbito de los conflictos armados.
La guerra tiene un impacto directo sobre el terreno, causando también destrucción en la tierra, contaminación y reduciendo o destruyendo los cultivos, la ganadería y las fuentes de agua saludables.

IFOR insta ahora a poner el foco en un aspecto significativo que tiene un impacto global, y es: "Los efectos destructivos para el medio ambiente y el clima de todas las actividades del sector militar" y sobre las siguientes demandas
1. Divulgar los impactos destructivos por parte de los militares basándose en hechos concretos,
2. Recogida de datos y total transparencia sobre la huella de carbono de los militares,
3. Notificación obligatoria de todas las emisiones militares de GEI en consonancia con la Convención Marco de la ONU (Acuerdo de París 2015) en los respectivos informes nacionales sobre el clima
4. Inclusión de las emisiones militares de GEI en futuras negociaciones sobre el clima,
5. Abolir la guerra.

La producción de armas suele requerir la recuperación de recursos a menudo explotados y a menudo implica productos de desecho y contaminación. El propio uso de las armas tiene consecuencias negativas para el medio ambiente. Uno de los ejemplos más llamativos es el de las armas nucleares, cuya producción, ensayo, almacenamiento y uso suponen un peligro constante para la humanidad y el planeta entero, hasta el punto de tener consecuencias devastadoras e irreparables.

La militarización del territorio y las acciones de los grupos armados también provocan la devastación del entorno en el que viven las personas, provocando condiciones de vida insoportables y perjudiciales.
Además, muchos conflictos violentos se generan para hacerse con el control de los recursos, a menudo en países ricos en recursos, normalmente en el sur del mundo.

La inversión en armamento y en el ejército es inmoral, tanto porque es una inversión en la destrucción de seres vivos y de territorio como porque desplaza recursos necesarios para proteger y salvaguardar el medio ambiente y la vida en el planeta. Hay muchas inversiones urgentes para prevenir catástrofes y reparar los daños ya causados, y mientras se piense que la seguridad la proporcionan los militares, las catástrofes continuarán.

La seguridad de los individuos y del planeta que nos alberga viene determinada por el "cuidado de nuestra casa común", por el respeto al medio ambiente y a los recursos, y por su uso moderado y no egoísta o en interés de unos pocos.

La noviolencia pone de manifiesto la necesidad y la utilidad de opciones alternativas a las de la Cultura de la Violencia, opciones que comprometan a todos los actores sociales, opciones destinadas a preservar todas las formas de vida y a reparar las formas de injusticia y desigualdad entre los habitantes de la Tierra.
