Travel information

ONAD is undertaking political work in South Sudan in preparation for the event. The accommodation and Council venue will be a Catholic Church-owned facility (the Good Shepherd Peace Centre). Good travel insurance for every attendee is a must, including emergency evacuation (this can be contracted from specialist travel insurance firms). While many of the Western countries have an embassy in Juba, their consular services operate from Uganda or Kenya. The same is true for smaller embassies from other countries. It is highly advisable to be in touch with the relevant consulate before departure.

South Sudan requires a full covid vaccination schedule and, at the present time, a PCR test taken 72 hours prior to entry. One should also be vaccinated against yellow fever; this will be verified at time of applying for the visa. Health insurance that offers full health coverage and repatriation is advisable. This would normally be part of a good travel insurance policy.

The following page is a useful summary of medical conditions for South Sudan: https://klmhealthservices.com/en/inentingen/south-sudan/

The best options for flying into Juba are with Ethiopian, Kenya and Turkish airlines. All foreign nationals require a visa, but this is now available online, processed in Juba, and downloadable, so it is much easier than in past years: https://www.evisa.gov.ss/

The process should take no longer than 72 hours, but please do not leave things to the last minute, in case there are any unexpected issues. About a month before should be fine. ONAD hopes to provide a letter of invitation.

Moreover, each delegate will need to check if they are subject to any transfer visas on their route to Juba, and either find an alternative route if possible, or make provision for those visas.

Don’t forget to register to attend the council in person or virtually. You can do this here.
