Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost, and millions of people have been displaced. This week during the opening week of the UN General Assembly, on Wednesday September 21, the International Day of Peace, IFOR is supporting the Global Day of Action and Prayer for Syria.

The International Secretariat is asking IFOR members around the world to join the multi-faith coalition of organizations and congregations in prayer for the people of Syria this Wednesday.

In New York, IFOR Members have organized the following events to coincide with the meeting of diplomats gathered to discuss the refugee crisis:

Press Conference: IFOR has invited Yara Harake, a Lebanese Human Rights Activist with Theirworld, who works with Syrian Refugees in Lebanon to join the press conference of U.S. faith leaders to be held at 4:00 p.m. at Community Church of New York.

Interfaith Prayer Service:
In New York, International Committee Member Stacey Mitchell, and UN Representative Mark Johnson have worked with others to organize an interfaith prayer service that will be held at the Community Church of New York at 5:00 PM EST.

ACTION: Among those displaced by the war are millions of children. These children will not only need to grapple with the horror and trauma of war and displacement, their education has been disrupted which will also impact the rest of their lives. In addition to calling for an end to the war. IFOR is supporting the YOU PROMISED campaign launched by Theirworld, an effort to support the education of refugee children wherever they are.

We encourage members of IFOR  to sign the petition to pressure governments to follow through with their promise to Syrian children.
